The series are arranged from fast to slow.
This is indicated by the letters A, B, C...

The only exception is the 800m.
There, equivalent series are created for two women and three men. This ensures a better competition. It is better to have a ribbon formation because there is a slight difference in level between the athletes than a competition with a lot of fighting for the right position.
